The United States Of America Was The Top Wind Energy Producer In 2008

Yay for renewable energy! And yay for America! The United States was the top producer of wind energy in 2008. According to Ars Technica:

"Wind was the largest component of Europe's growth in electric generating capacity, the US became the world's top wind energy producer, and China doubled its installed capacity in just a year -- for the fourth year running."

Ars' John Timmer noted that America "took the top spot after increasing its capacity by 50 percent in 2008, building 8.4GW of new facilities." I'm so proud to be a U.S. American.

I don't understand people that don't want wind turbines in their towns. This is probably me being a product of urban culture, but isn't cleaner energy more important than a lovely view of a corn field?I'm willing to listen and learn if anyone has some good reasons. So speak up wind-turbine haters!
