Netflix To Stream Premium Cable?

Posted February 2, 2009 - By Stephen Johnson

Based on a customer opinion survey, Netflix is considering offering premium cable TV content through its streaming service. The survey asked respondents if they would play an extra $9.99 on top of their normal Netflix subscriptions so they could watch premium, HBO-style movies and TV shows.

TV shows mentioned by name in the survey are from HBO: The Wire, Rome, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Flight of the Concords. The movies mentioned specifically in the survey include Children of Men, I Am Legend, and Jumper.

Let me perform Netflix's job on its behalf and ask: If you could stream cable TV style content to your TV through Netflix, would you pay extra to do it? How much?

Personally, I wouldn't pay anything. I am already a Netflix member. In addition, with TiVo, streaming, as well as borrowed and bought DVDs, I have way more media than I have time to enjoy it.
