Activision Confirms 'DJ Hero'

Posted January 30, 2009 - By Stephen Johnson

At the Davos World Economic Forum in Switzerland, Activision's CEO Bobby Kotick confirmed that DJ Hero is coming out this year, and it will be played with a turntable peripheral. Hardly a surprise, but a nice confirmation and release window!

"We have this product called DJ Hero coming out later this year, which is a turntable that you can actually play competitively, spin discs and mix on," Kotick told CNBC.

Gaming site Gamasutra notes that DJ Hero is not the only video game about the ones and twos in development. Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, from 7 Studios and Genius Products, is in development, and Quincy Jones III is helping out. Scratch is planned with a turntable controller as well.

So there's you go, would-be video game DJs, your ship has come in. Before the end of the year, you'll be wearing a sideways visor and be all "wicki-wicki-wicki-wicki" on your home console.
