Four expansions to EA's innovative open-universe creature simulation Spore have been announced. They sound totally Spore-riffic. Here's the line-up:

  • For the PC, there's the Spore Galactic Adventures expansion, scheduled for this spring. The game offers quest-based missions for the "space phase" of the original game, and allow "players to beam down to planets, play mission-based adventures and even create their own customized adventures for the first time."
  • Spore Creature Keeper, also for the PC, is delivered as a stand-alone product, and is aimed at a younger audience, letting players train and nurture created creatures.
  • SporeHero marks Spore's debut on the Wii. It's an adventure game focusing on creativity and evolution that was built from the ground up for the controls for Wii. Spore Hero "takes players on an adventure through a beautiful, colorful world."
  • Spore Hero Arena for Nintendo DS builds on the success of 2008's hit Spore Creatures and allows players to create fully-3D Spore creatures and take them into battle with an array of other creatures across the galaxy. My Spore creature will totally kick your Spore creature's ass.

Of all these titles, I'm most excited about Spore Galactic Adventures -- the expansion could finally realize the nearly endless possibilities of the space section of Spore. Plus, if there's one thing Spore developer Maxis does right, it's providing tools to customize game experiences. After all, what is the Sim City series if not just a huge level builder?

We predict the legion of Spore fans out there will create an endless number of ridiculous, awesome and wang-filled custom levels. After all, it wouldn't be Spore without digital wangs. Plus, the addition of new powers for Spore creatures will result in fire-breathing wangs! And isn't that what we've always wanted??

Also, about six minutes after Galactic Adventures is released, someone will make a Super Mario level. I'll bet you anything.
