According to Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith, music game Guitar Hero III has generated a billion dollars for the company. That's with a "B." It's the first game to pass that monetary milestone.
Not only has the game brought in more dough than any other title, according to Griffith, the game is affecting the world of actual music too. During his keynote speech at CES, Griffith boasted that bands featured in Guitar Hero III saw a rise in download sales* of 15-843%.
"Video games are poised to eclipse all other forms of entertainment in the decade ahead," Griffith said.
My question is: Are Rock Band, Guitar Hero and other music game lines a passing fad or will they be around for the long-haul?
*The figure of 15-843% is not a typo.
