MacWorld Keynote 2009 Tidbits: 'iPhoto '09'

Posted January 6, 2009 - By Raymond Padilla

Apple revealed a slew of new features to the iPhoto component of its iLife software suite. The new iPhoto '09 will use facial detection in a feature called...wait for it..."Faces". This feature automatically scans photos and groups them by the subjects' faces. It will also use geotagging in a feature called "Places". This allows users to mark and organize photos by location. It supports cameras with built-in geotagging, but users can manually input the location information. A global map (via Google Maps) is used, showing pins in all the locations the user snapped pictures. The program will have Flickr and Facebook integration.

Perhaps the most exciting feature of iPhoto '09 is its slideshow templates. It sounds banal, but the templates use slick transitions and effects that allow users to create great-looking slideshows with ease. Slideshows can be saved on iTunes and synched with an iPhone or iPod Touch.

The new version of iLife will be available at the end of the month.
