My decision is made: I'm moving to Japan right away, just so I can buy a limited edition Yakuza 3 themed PlayStation 3 console like the one pictured above. That thing is super-sweet. it's a 80GB system that comes with a DualShock and a copy of Yakuza 3. It runs $490 American, and will be in stores in Japan just in time for the game's release on February 26. If you're not familiar with the series, the dragon pictured on the bone-white case is Yakuza hero Kazuma Kiryu's tattoo.
As for when the pretty console will be released in America, I guess never. While the Yakuza series is popular in Japan, and the last game got solid reviews here in the States, I doubt the series has enough of an American fanbase to support a custom case. Not that this is Yakuza's fault -- the last entry in the series, Yakuza 2, came out for the PlayStation 2 in September of 2008, almost two years after the game's Eastern release! It's an awesome game, but putting out a last generation title is no way to build a massive army of loyal followers.
No North American release date has been announced for Yakuza 3.
