Sony's PlayStation Home online service is a great way for PlayStation 3 owners to meet other like-minded gamers...but only if they're straight. Apparently Home is filtering the words gay, lesbian, and bisexual from text chats, club naming, and club forums. While it's certainly understandable for Sony to censor profanity, censoring the aforementioned words is just flat-out discrimination. SF Gate discussed the matter with Patrick Seybold of Sony Computer Entertainment of America's public relations department:

"'The key message is it's a beta and it's evolving on a daily basis. We've said early on that user behavior and feedback will shape where we go with Home.' In the case of the censored words,Seybold said, Home employed filters to prevent defamation in Home's closed test version. But when the service went public, he said, it should have started allowing those words."

This discriminatory practice is immensely disappointing and hiding behind the beta tag is an easy excuse. Hopefully Sony gets its act together and makes Home a place that all its users -- regardless of sexual preference -- can enjoy. What does this news make you think of Home? Do you like it less? Or are you indifferent?
