'ThunderCats' Trailer Is Online...Sort Of

Posted by Joseph Baxter - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 10:39 AM

At first glance, you might think that this was some major pre-holiday bombshell that was dropped on us, as it appears to be a legit trailer for a ThunderCats feature film. Well, that is before you catch a glimpse of what sounds like Lion-O's guardian Jaga, who bears a striking similarity to the Grail Knight from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Then, you realize that this is a fan-made work of art.

YouTube user, WormyT must have labored long and hard to create this masterpiece. He uses clips from tons of source films such as Troy, Chronicles of Riddick, Spy Kids, and Blade Runner to create this spectacular trailer. According to him, all of the effects were done frame-by-frame in Photoshop. (That must have been a long and tedious process.)

Huge props go out to him for his hard work, showing Hollywood how it's done, and for possibly making us think "hey, Vin Diesel would actually be pretty awesome in that role."

Wow! Long and tedious probably doesn't even begin to describe how much work he put into that. Interesting though.

Posted by Al_Coholic - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 10:57 AM

I'm impressed.

Posted by rbee90 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:01 AM

and for a few seconds there i thought it was legit...that was pretty awesome tho...

Posted by BONERJAM - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:02 AM

Impressive. Although he used clips from a bunch of movies they were changed enough to pull off the trailer.

Posted by Hallowethe - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:04 AM

Um...what's a "Thundercat"...?

Posted by MrBig200 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:08 AM

epic win!!

Posted by Ieyke - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:11 AM

"Um...what's a "Thundercat"...?"
EPIC FAIL

I hate Thundercats, but not knowing who they are is epic noobery.

Posted by faygohero - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:13 AM

Nicely done! Almost wish there was a movie coming out after watching that.

Posted by mothr101 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:15 AM

my jaw has officially dropped. thats a lot of work on photoshop! WOW!

Posted by Ikarus - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:21 AM

That looks amazing...I didn't see how it was clips from other movies until I began recognizing Stargate, then X-men...then...Garfield.....

Posted by shinichimaru - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:21 AM

wow that was awesome

Posted by halokiller455 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:21 AM

I seriously thought it was real until I noticed the armor Lion-O was wearing was from troy.

Posted by atari05 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:28 AM

Nice choice of using Gigi Edgley as cheetara.

Posted by N8R - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:28 AM

The REALLY bad thing about this...

Now George Lucas has another way to rape his own classics.

Posted by jnights - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:33 AM

Ya know, I always thought that Pris from Blade Runner looked like Cheetara. Also i think that planet explosion was from Star trek VI.

Posted by collinE - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:44 AM

that's hilariously awesome. a bunch of planet of the apes was in there that nobody mentioned. Was that the eye of sauron?

Posted by collinE - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:48 AM

just watched it again. spy kids and mortal kombat 2

Posted by SpotRamer - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 11:52 AM

Very impressive! That looked about 100 times better than that "real" movie trailer for dragon ball z!!!!!!!!

Posted by SteamRolan - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 12:04 PM

1:18 made me think of Logan (x-men); that is him right? I wasn't paying attention to pic up that this was fake until I read the caption saying it is. This was nicely done and I would watch that movie based on that fake trailer.
Good job!

Posted by shadowfreak - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 12:06 PM

I'd go see it

Posted by majintipp - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 12:07 PM

Dear hollywood,
Make this movie, now.

"I hate Thundercats....", thats like saying you hate the 80's, you either weren't born in that time, or was in cryo stasis, cause Thundercats rocked

Posted by yellowdart46 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 12:15 PM

It was nice. Noticed the bad guy from Galaxy Quest was in there.

Posted by Manifest37 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 12:19 PM

Makes me want a real Thundercats movie!
80's FTW!

Posted by Al_Coholic - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 12:39 PM

Wow, over 20 comments on a Joseph Baxter thread. A new record.

Posted by MindCarrot - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 12:57 PM

god can anyone on this site say anything without using EPIC FAIL or EPIC WIN or FTW. wow...just wow.

Posted by deathsdelivery - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 1:09 PM

I got excited...Than my heart got broken!!

Posted by Letters2Kay - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 1:09 PM

WIIIIIIIIIIN!!!

Posted by vferg - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 1:12 PM

Yea I was thinking the same thing about the dragonball trailer. I would totally go see this over that garbage there trying to pass off called dragonball. This trailer was amazing looking and I don't even like over the top action movies either.

Posted by drpapi2fiend4 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 1:17 PM

THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!! You know you like hollywood not to mess everything up from your childhood. But man if these things were done by the right people who care you can see how good something like this could be. Dragonball is going to be a disappointment... and i'm a huge fan. Thundercats if made by the wrong people would be disastrous. If they ever do it I hope it is done right...

Posted by omenx - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 1:21 PM

that is not Bladerunner it is from Farscape!

Posted by ctlaltdel - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 1:31 PM

That was pretty awesome.

Posted by achillez77 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 1:38 PM

Yes, I agree, epic win. Hollywood, make it happen!

Posted by GreedyMcNasty - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 1:43 PM

Oh my dear God that was Soooooooooo Good. I am an instant fan. Perfect actors for the parts as well. Fans know best.

Posted by Crankr - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 1:58 PM

Vin Diesil, Hugh Jackman, Brad Pitt, Garfield. I promise you that no matter how the Thundercats movie will turn out, it could never be anywhere near as awsome as this trailer.

Posted by collinE - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 2:04 PM

WTF, MindCarrot? OMG quit complaining! lulz

Posted by Asrugan - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 2:17 PM

If this guy was the creative director on a live action version, I'd be in line now for a ticket.

Posted by edbig98 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 3:57 PM

My question is: Have any of the actors in this "trailer" seen this? I can honestly say that Vin Diesel WILL play Panthro. Brad Pitt as Lion-O? That's pretty good...Hugh Jackman as Tigra? Epic Win. Now get someone that can take this property seriously, and I WILL BE THERE when it comes out...

WOW

Posted by benvoliothefirst - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 5:25 PM

An absolute work of art from a creative genius... with waaaay too much time on his hands.

But seriously, though... fantastic work.

Posted by jhes77 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 5:36 PM

was that garfield?

Posted by geoeye - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 6:46 PM

Long and tedious is right but damn it looked really good i want that movie to come out now

Posted by pete806 - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 8:43 PM

Haha at 0:52, that clip's from the Power rangers movie!

Posted by UWR - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 9:35 PM

I was born in 92 and managed to watch the thundercats on cartoonnetwork when I was a kid. how could someone here not know about it? :P. and hahah I noticed that footage from the Mighty Morphin power rangers movie too :D greatest power ranger movie of all time btw :)

Posted by KDollaz - Wednesday, December 24, 2008 1:01 AM

Heellls Ghyeaaa that was sweet! Dude have some major skills with Photoshop I would like this one. Definitely a win!!

Posted by Kockynvainn - Wednesday, December 24, 2008 7:55 AM

Ahhh cannot watch because I am at work. Must escape home...

Posted by armygentleman - Wednesday, December 24, 2008 8:51 AM

It had me going for a few minutes there. Besides that it looks polished and authentic. Not bad at all. There are a few good ideas that could be put into the actual movie. Vin Diesel as Panthro would be sweet.

very well done
