Oh, what an excellent Friday it is, ladies and gentlemen! After months of alleged deal blocking, Double Fine's Brutal Legend finally has a new home! According to a company press release, the game will be published by Electronic Arts and supported by the company's EA Partners division. The release quotes Double Fine's excellent Tim Schafer as saying:
"This is awesome news! The quality and creativity of the games EA Partners has been involved with make it a perfect home for our baby, Brütal Legend. Some people were starting to wonder if the saga of Eddie Riggs would ever see the light of day, but now I think it’s clear that this game, like Metal itself, cannot be killed!"
Initially, I was a bit worried when I heard about the deal. I immediately had flashbacks of EA working with another of my favorite hyper-creative developers, Oddworld Inhabitants. Back in 2005, the company didn't support Oddworld's game adequately (to put it mildly). That said, EA is a very different company in 2008, with EA Partners being looked very highly upon by the likes Harmonix and Valve. One of my Christmas wishes is for Double Fine to get the star treatment at EA.
