Blu-ray Players Outselling Standard Definition in Japan

Posted December 11, 2008 - By TylerColfax

Despite a faltering economy, Japanese consumers are choosing to buy Blu-ray DVD recorders more than the standard definition counterparts. That's according to GfK Retail and Technology, a market research company that monitors point-of-sale transactions globally.

As early as October, 2007 the percentage of people choosing Blu-ray over other formats was only at 10% in Japan. Of course, HD-DVD was not yet dead and the price point for the technology was just too high for most consumers to make the leap.

But in the face of falling prices, some movie fans are finding it necessary to make the upgrade. So, what about you, are you planning to make the transition to Blu or have you already?
