Valve has made "a server-side fix to deny the recently reported cheats on all dedicated Left 4 Dead Xbox 360 servers." This should help stomp most of the cheating that has been going on in the Versus mode in the Xbox 360 version, but a title update will be required to patch user-hosted and system link servers.
However, if you're cheating over system link, you're probably close enough to the people you're playing against to risk being kicked.
According to Valve, "the majority of co-op and Versus" games take place on their dedicated servers so rest easy.
Cheats allowing players to spawn enemies like Witches were discovered recently and were ruining many games of Left 4 Dead.
