Jay Leno Scores With New 10PM Slot at NBC

It looks like Jay Leno will stay on with NBC beyond May 2010.

The network has signed Leno to a new contract with a new format, giving him a prime-time slot of 10PM weeknights.

Although it announced five years ago that Conan O'Brien would take the desk of the "Tonight Show," NBC has worked hard to keep Leno from going elsewhere as his show continues to rate the highest in late-night format.

With this shift, O'Brien will move his show "Tonight" to Universal City, CA. It currently tapes in New York City.

It's interesting to note that no broadcast network has ever ran the same show during prime time during its week nights. That generally happens in daytime broadcasting.

This new deal for Leno appears to be a win-win for both the host and the network, as it should cut its production costs.
