Walmart.com Offering Holiday Wii Sale!

Posted by Frank Meyer - Monday, December 08, 2008 11:28 AM

Wal-Mart is offering "tens of thousands" of Nintendo Wiis for $249.24 on its website starting today as part of a holiday blowout. Plus, certain Wii video games are being sold at two for $30, and some accessories, like the Nintendo Wii Racing Wheel, are starting under $10. There’s also a "value bundle" of the popular console and other items, like an extra set of controllers, going for $329 while supplies last.

Walmart.com spokesman Ravi Jariwala said they have been working with Nintendo closely and have seen strong sales of Wii products on its website, whihc helped to secure the latest Wii booty.

Shockingly, despite the recession, Wal-Mart has been gaining market share in the U.S. as penny-pinching shoppers head there for low prices. On Thursday, the retail giant reported a stronger-than-expected 3.4 percent rise in sales at its U.S. stores open at least a year after it cut prices on food and toys to lure customers. Guess that worked.

And despite a slow coupla months when it comes to hot new products, the Wii has emerged as one of the hottest holiday gifts this season. In fact, on Black Friday, the Wii was the most searched-for product on the Yahoo Shopping site. It was also the most popular product on eBay, with 3,171 of the consoles selling for an average price of $349 that day.

Go figure. You buying a Wii for your loved ones? Hated ones? Anyone?

Too bad there are no good games on the list. Not a single mario, zelda, or metroid prime game. It's amazing how Nintendo's power games still retain the $50 price tag 3 years after being released.

That's because the power games are the only decent things out there, there's nothing new to take the 50$ price tag so they can lower the price of the power games.

A savings of an amazing 76 cents!

Wii: Now only $249.24.

I have to disagree, there are a pair of decent games on that list: Mercury Meltdown Revolution and BlastWorks. They're both hovering around the 7.5-8 range in reviews; may be worth getting for $15 a pop.

@vaheegn
its not really amazing, its part off their strategy. They figure that if game prices stay consistent people will buy their games now instead of waiting for next year . Think why buy this years game now for $50/$60 when you can get last years game for $30/$20. If a game get great reviews you may want to play it sooner or later.
Plus in the case of games of Zelda calibur you can't say that full price is a waste.
