Smashing Pumpkins, Eagles, And Nirvana Coming To 'Guitar Hero: World Tour'

Posted by Raymond Padilla - Wednesday, December 03, 2008 9:32 AM

Activision has announced its December lineup of songs for Guitar Hero: World Tour. First up is The Smashing Pumpkins on December 4, with "1979", "G.L.O.W.", and "Everlasting Gaze".  They'll be followed by Nirvana on December 11, with "You Know You're Right", "Sliver", and "Negative Creep". The Eagles will light things up on December 18 with "Life in the Fast Lane", "One of These Nights", and "Frail Grasp on the Big Picture". And because nothing says Christmas like Reggae, December 23 will see the release of a free reggae pack with songs from Slightly Stoopid, Expendables, and Pepper. Activision's press release states:

"The Eagles, Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins Track Packs will be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft for 440 Microsoft Points and on the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system for $5.49. The songs in each Track Pack will be released as downloadable singles for Xbox 360 for 160 Microsoft Points, PlayStation 3 system for $1.99 and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for Wii for 200 Wii Points. The Free Reggae Rock Track Pack will be available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and as singles for Wii."

The offerings look pretty solid and diverse. There should be something for everyone in the mix. I'm pretty psyched for "1979" and "Life in the Fast Lane". On a sidenote, I miss James and, especially, D'arcy being in Pumpkins -- it's just not the same. What songs are you guys high on? I know you're all hot for the reggae pack. Ha!

People still play Guitar Hero?

Where is my 80's punk and hardcore pack with Black Flag, Minor Threat and the Bad Brains.

At least I have Dead Kennedys packs to play, I guess.

Would of liked "Get Over It" instead of "Frail Grasp" but that's cool...

I think an Iron Maiden pack would be cool, or Motorhead.

@ Raymond, I hear ya. I can live if the Pumpkins don't have D'arcy, because she wasn't that good of a bassist, but bring back James at least.

@JDarkley Yeah, she wasn't the best, but I have a soft spot in my heart for hot female bass players. Corgan always gets some good ones -- D'arcy, Paz, Ginger, etc.

I would like to have seen a better choice of bands, sry for all who like the smashing pumpkins eagles and nirvana. something like heavy metal for the holidays so that the neighbors wont sleep.

I'm psyched for "1979", first heard it in GTA IV and have slowly been liking The Smashing Pumpkins more and more ever since. Eagles and Nirvana can only = awesome.

Sliver is one of the greatest and underated Nirvana songs ever. Too bad I don't have GH: WT. Hope it comes to Rock Band!

@CPRxChris
First heard it in GTA 4? damn, i'm old.

i haven't played GH:WT at all yet. i'm a bigger fan of RB and RB2. is GH:WT any good?

Lol first hearing about The smashing pumpkins in Gta4? dam..

@Darthyr Sliver is a sick song indeed. Thats so sick that they are putting that song on. Even if i refuse to play any rock band or guitar hero games.

Oh and Raymond they've had the same members for atleast 4-5 years. You should of had plenty of time to get over that. Billy corgan is a mean sonofabiotch

I would have liked a better song from Your Face and Jimi aren't the greatest songs from those bands. :( We need some 2-tone and ska-core, brother!

Wow, what was I thinking. Your Face and Jimi aren't the greatest songs from those bands. :( We need some 2-tone and ska-core, brother!

So, it looks as if WT Wii players are only getting screwed on the DLC front by the Hendrix estate? Eagles, Pumpkins, Nirvana, unkonown (to me) reggae bands - all "track packs" that will be broken up into singles for Wii (and 360/PS3).

Is it greed or stupidity that controls the legacy of Jimi Hendrix these days?

Either way....nice to see actual weekly DLC update on WT (a la RB). Keep it up, Activision!!! You may redeem yourselves yet!

And as to the SP pic @ the top of the story - coulda used a pic that also had Jimmy Chamberlin, as he's the only other original in the band w/ Billy C.

Other than that, seeing D'arcy again is always a pleasure (even if it's a shot from the Adore era)

@FuzzyLumkins "4-5 years"??? That's not true. The band only got back together (for live performances) in 2007. After D'arcy, I had to deal with Melissa's superior bass playing, but inferior sexiness. Ginger Reyes totally works for me though.
