Crucio!!! LEGO Harry Potter Is On The Way

Posted by Raymond Padilla - Monday, December 01, 2008 8:25 AM

We've gone from Star Wars to Indiana Jones to Batman. The next logical step, obviously, is Harry Potter! It looks like LEGO Harry Potter is on the way...at least that's the story from Computer and Videogames:

"The next big property to be reborn in little plastic blocks will be Harry Potter, CVG has learnt. We've got no solid details on what form the game will take but an action-adventure type of romp taking its lead from the books (or movies) would be the safe bet. Expect lots of Hogwarts, and big fat Hagrid and a little boy with Lego hair then."

I'm actually pretty psyched for this one. I'm a huge mark for the Harry Potter books and, to a lesser extent, the movies (let's face it...Emma Watson, the mynx that plays Hermione, is getting hot). The distinct sets from the movies (Hogwart's, Ministry of Magic, Diagon Alley, etc.) should translate nicely into LEGO levels.

There are a lot of people that are irritated that Traveller's Tales gets to make the same game over and over again, but with different paint jobs. I don't fall into that camp. Yes, the games are basic. Yes, the games are above average, at best. However, I really enjoy how the developer uses these licenses, as well as the lighthearted humor in all the "LEGO + license" games. I also like that the games are simple enough for my non-gamer friends to play. Accio LEGO Harry Potter!!! Didn't get that reference? Oh well...expelliarmus!!!

There are alredy too many LEGO games. There's batman, star wars, and indiana jones. do you know anyone who has beaten all of them yet?

Posted by AkimboTrout - Monday, December 1, 2008 8:43 AM

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

Posted by r_pad - Monday, December 1, 2008 8:48 AM

@iJericho Some people might not like Batman AND Star Wars AND Indiana Jones AND Harry Potter. More realistically, they might be really into some of these properties and not the others.

@AkimboTrout Brilliant reference!

Posted by Bookshelf - Monday, December 1, 2008 8:48 AM

lego games aren't meant to be beat.

Posted by vaheegn - Monday, December 1, 2008 8:53 AM

LEGO Indiana Jones & LEGO Batman stunk.

I'm so excited for this one. It's my #1 anticipated game for next summer, if it's actually happening.

Posted by johnnypeps - Monday, December 1, 2008 9:02 AM

i can't believe they put this girl in a bath now lol. they have no shame, unlike us americans.

Posted by r_pad - Monday, December 1, 2008 9:09 AM

@tachFX It's actually from one of Emma Watson's other movies (Ballet Shoes). I just thought it would be cool to have a picture of Emma Watson naked in a bath tub.

Posted by Postal1111 - Monday, December 1, 2008 9:24 AM

Well, they've had LEGO Larry Potter for years in brick format, why not virtual? Not like it's a new property to them.

I'm personally waiting for the LEGO MMO :)

Oh, and thanks Raymond for telling us it's from Ballet Shoes - I'm going to buy that now!!

Posted by idlebutdeadly - Monday, December 1, 2008 9:51 AM

I'd drink that bath water :D

Posted by Warheart1188 - Monday, December 1, 2008 9:52 AM

Too many Lego games? Yeah right. Three is too many. I can't wait for this one. I love HP and I've played all the other games so this one could be the best, other than Chamber. Hopefully it's based on all 7 books and uses the environments from the films, although some originality could be nice.

Posted by deline - Monday, December 1, 2008 9:55 AM

starwars and indiana jones i have beaten them to 100% and batman have not got it yet.
any way i would like to play a LEGO Star Trek Ent, TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voy also all the star trek movies as a PS3 Games.

wow amazing picture

Posted by Vesipham - Monday, December 1, 2008 10:01 AM

Awesome! I was wondering why they hadn't made it before. I think this will be the best one because they have a LOT of content that can be worked with, including all the different spells.

Hermione could specialize in unlocking doors, Harry could use Patronus, and Ron could do...whatever he does. Man, imagine the Quidditch matches and boss fights!

I don't care how childish LEGOs are, this game will be awesome.

Posted by asthmagasm - Monday, December 1, 2008 10:03 AM

My guilty pleasure is getting the best of me and I'm sure I'll play the hell out of this.

@Raymond
Well done with Emma in the bath tub.

Posted by SweetStella - Monday, December 1, 2008 10:28 AM

I really hated the only LEGO game I have played (Indiana Jones for DS), but I will probably get this one! I will get it for another system though. Yay Harry Potter!

Posted by Nathiest - Monday, December 1, 2008 10:39 AM

I'm so totally there! I've played all the Potter games based on the movies and they're all pretty good, but it'll be great to actually play a potter game base on the books. I just hope it doesn't suck like Lego Batman did. Lego Indy was pretty dame good.

Posted by ThataUFO - Monday, December 1, 2008 11:28 AM

@AkimboTrout
Damn I laughed hard when I read that, thanks man, I needed it.

Lego's were my favorite toys growing up so I'll at least rent this one. Although I noticed that the Indiana Jones and Batman games weren't as fun with out the light sabers to wreck shop with.

Posted by MyXxBitterXxHeroics - Monday, December 1, 2008 11:48 AM

i'm totally getting that bath water off of ebay and chugging it down.

Posted by Vesipham - Monday, December 1, 2008 11:54 AM

@ MyXxBitterXxHeroics

That is probably the most disgusting thing I have ever read.

Posted by achillez77 - Monday, December 1, 2008 12:36 PM

Yeah, I think what u mean is she's getting legal. Thanx for the pic. The Lego games are cool, some things should stay basically the same, sometimes a new paint job is enough.

Posted by UltimatePi - Monday, December 1, 2008 12:51 PM

Sorry all, this is one Lego game that won't happen. Lego dumped the Harry Potter license in '07. The existing Lego games are for licensed themes that are doing well. Lego star wars was (and still is)one of Lego's bestsellers, so why not make a video game? That spawned 2 sequels and 2 other lego games due to it's sucess. Indy and Batman are new licenses for Lego and are selling strong. Harry Potter was not selling well in '06, so Lego dumped it in '07

And that is wy there will be no Lego HP video game

Posted by r_pad - Monday, December 1, 2008 1:36 PM

@UltimatePi Thanks for that info. Perhaps LEGO might renew the Harry Potter license next year around the time when The Half-Blood Prince comes out.

Posted by Rajion1 - Monday, December 1, 2008 1:47 PM

Stickle Brick Twilight. Called it!

Posted by npai - Monday, December 1, 2008 1:56 PM

Harry Potter has already been done in LEGO. Twice. The two games were: LEGO CREATOR: Harry Potter and Philosopher's Stone and LEGO CREATOR: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The first one was fun back when I played it, but a bit too slow. This will likely spice things up, although I highly doubt that I'd be getting this, even though I am a pretty big fan of the Harry Potter series.

Illustrated news FTW.

Posted by Ieyke - Monday, December 1, 2008 2:10 PM

@achillez77: she IS legal. Since early this year in fact.

Posted by davidks1992 - Monday, December 1, 2008 3:00 PM

yeah this chick gets hotter each movie.

@Raymond Padilla
It's interesting to have a G4 employee actually respond to comments on the Feed

Posted by r_pad - Monday, December 1, 2008 4:31 PM

@Yatzee1000 It's part of my plan to get into Emma's pants...oops...I meant world domination...no, that's not it.... I mean, it's part of my plant to transform TheFeed. More to come!

Posted by Yatzee1000 - Monday, December 1, 2008 4:54 PM

@Raymond Padilla
your plant to take over the world huh well that's... interesting. Oh and if you want to take over the world you had better start with france and canada it will probably take you about twenty minutes tops

Posted by r_pad - Monday, December 1, 2008 5:11 PM

@Yatzee1000 Canada would be cool. Vancouver is a lovely city. France would rule for the wine, bread, and cheese alone!

Posted by Flipz15 - Monday, December 1, 2008 5:32 PM

@MyXxBitterXxHeroics
Yeah that was uhmm.. no. Don't do that.

@Vesipham
Then you haven't been on the intarweb long enough my friend :(

Even though I was a beast with the LEGOs as a kid, I've never really gotten into any LEGO-based games. I might change my mind if someone confirms any decent amount of actual building or customization other than with the characters.

Isn't that what LEGOs are for, y'all?

From what little I've seen, the new Banjo-Kazooie game has deeper customization mechanics than the LEGO games. But I haven't played either, so..

If I'm wrong, correct me. Flame me. Whatever works, you have my permission. I'm curious.

Posted by Shadow_B_jamin - Monday, December 1, 2008 5:34 PM

What made the Lego Star Wars great was the force powers. Harry potter has spell which pretty much do the same thing. But I likeHappy Potter Movies Books and hope this lego game will be good.

Oh and whats up with the pic. I don't rember Emma Wastson in a bath tub in any of the movies. But she is legal now.

Posted by Twinrova - Tuesday, December 2, 2008 4:15 AM

I ended up getting the Lego Batman and IJ games for 50% each (2 for 1) and am enjoying the Lego Batman immensely. I'm looking forward to IJ and given how well these games play, I'm also going to cave in to Lucas' growing revenue empire and get the SW series.

While not the greatest games in the world, they pass the time well. Unlike Tomb Raider: Underworld, which locks up my console every 10 minutes.

PS: Hold the phone! Emma Watson made ANOTHER movie???? I guess after her crotch shot spreading around the world, I guess she's got no where else to go. Poor, cutie.

Posted by CNCOMICS - Tuesday, December 2, 2008 2:22 PM

I enjoyed the Lego Batman demo especially playing as the Joker and Harley Quinn. I was laughing so hard as the Joker got his little bobbing walk on and also from the killer hand-buzzer, imagine that in real life!

But I think Harry Potter will do really well, it's going to net everyone involved a lot of money like the Lego Star Wars. There have been three games on Lego Star Wars, the first trilogy, the second trilogy, and then the complete series. Also look at how Warner Bros. distributes the Harry Potter DVD's: individual, First Three Years, the entire collection (so far) and so on.

But I really can't wait to see how they are going to do the magic. Will it be a one button spell do all, or use the bumpers or d-pad to cycle spells. Cause it was a little advanced in Order of the Phoenix for the intended audience.
