Even in arguably one of the greatest years in gaming with such quality titles as Fallout 3, Resistance 2, Gears of War 2, and so many more, there is still a ton of shovelware that swarms the industry week after week filling bargain bins to the brim and sadly making their way to homes everywhere. On this day of thanksgiving be sure to include people like mythical Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Producer Eiji Aonuma as he sets out to do the unthinkable and surpass the quality of Ocarina of Time.

"I’m happy that a title I worked on some time ago remains highly praised to this day, but that also shows how none of the subsequent games in the series have surpassed it," he explains. "As someone who is still working on the series, I have mixed feelings about that. Because I haven’t yet surpassed it, I can’t quit. Surprisingly, that simple motivation may be the reason I continue to work on the Zelda series."
The gaming industry equivalent of climbing Mt. Everest we here at G4 would like to salute the men and women like Mr. Aonuma on this day of giving thanks. We can't wait to see the fruits of his labor and see if he'll try to surpass even THAT effort.
Here's hoping.

Other zeldas have certainly polished the formula and added some new things, but none of them have come close to the innovative leaps ocarina took. It's my favorite game of all time. Every creative product is tied to the times that bore it, and so it has dated a bit, but so has Citizen Kane (and critics still consider it the greatest film of all time). I think this is very bold talk, outdoing ocarina. Wind Waker, TP, Phantom Hourglass, Majora--all these took it a step further, but ocarina completely reset it.
It will take something more than wildly waggling your arms about (to basically do the same thing as pressing a button). Ocarina took us from 2D, top-down to a whole new dimension, a whole new method of control, a whole new experience of the game. I don't see this happening with the Wii. Maybe next generation (I love my Wii. Just saying, let's not get carried away)

if it is indeed possible to look past our nostalgia and appreciate the newer games for what they are worth, then heres to you! but what i really would liked to have seen would be a revival of the kokiri, maybe just a visit later in the game, for old times sake you know?
