Windows Vista Promotion Shows Off PS2 Controllers

If you're at an agency creating an advertisement for a Microsoft product, one of the biggest and most successful companies on the planet... you'd think it'd be worth it to spend at least a few minutes figuring out what an Xbox 360 controller looks like.

Look at this ad for Vista gaming and check out the controllers the two boys are using.

Whoops! It's always funny when these mistakes happen in advertising, but I guess video games are interchangeable to people that don't really know anything about them.

This was planned. It would be a very bad idea to put Vista and Xbox 3FixMe in the same commercial for obvious reasons. They are the biggest software failure and the biggest hardware failure in history.

If the 360 is such a hardware failure..why is it selling so well? Why do 3rd party games run smoother on the 360? Microsoft also bumped their warranty to 3 years on the red lights. I personally enjoy playing my 360 more than my PS3. I own 7 PS3 games since launch and 27 Xbox 360 games...all third party games are better on 360. So I wouldn't really call it terrible hardware. Windows also isnt the biggest software failure in history...85% of computers are running windows.

I don't believe this is a mistake at all. Think about it...with the pc/mac wars, of course microsoft wouldn't want to drag down their own system with them. Now do not get me wrong, I am the anti mac / "RRoD" you will EVER meet, but it is not hard to say that competition has been fierce as of late. Perhaps it's a dual purpose ad, perhaps microsoft is hoping to gain and audience, and if they do not, they at least save the xbox 360 from the backlash. However, Perception is perception...and it did not turn out well for them in this case.

It's more likely that that image is part of the agencies image database in the "Video Games" category and they used it without knowing anything about what they are selling.

here is how i see it. MS by no mean is a failure, it has supposed all of us expectation regarding how smart they r when it comes to hardware and software, and what program or item doesnt have issues? we live in a computer/technology world! you go try n make somethin, c how many people will critize what u haev created. N dont forget if you do search for PC controller, there r many that kinda do look like the PS2 controllers, go ahead do the search

It's actually not a PS2 Controller, at least not a DS controller, if you look at the D-Pad it isn't made up of 4 "arrows" but rather one big sircle.... still, they do look like the DS controllers. Sony should sue them or something for this... t'is america, wouldn't surprise me

I'm not a PS3 fanboy (own 360 and Wii as well) but to say that 360 was not a hardware failure is to be blind. Biggest hardware faliure ever? Probably not but a 33% failure rate in earlier models is pretty abysmal.

As to why 360 sells more...price has a lot to do with that. Barring any argument about which console provides more "value", 360 has a perceived $200 price advantage on the PS3. It will be no surprise when 360 outsells the PS3, in the US at least, this holiday season especially considering the current economic environment.

About the picture, it is pretty funny that Microsoft advertised Vista using a Sony product.

This is just as good as the ad that Sony released of GT-HD but showed a car that was clearly from PGR3.... Mistakes are mistakes and no one is perfect.

Hey, where is RRoD, I know that I was a little harsh when I told him to get some help during the NXE thread. Oh well. Not a big loss..

Your right, well it seems that M$ went to the trouble of finding PC controllers that LOOK like PS2 controllers instead of using the 360 one....which already works with windows....

Not even a REAL PS2 controller but a copy.....wow M$ is cheap...
