The newest Bond feature Quantum of Solace did nothing less than dominate the box-office this weekend. With a take of $70.4 million, it carries not only the distinction of being the highest grossing opening for any Bond film, but for any spy drama. (You here that, Jason Bourne...Bond's not laying down yet.) Even the obligatory #1 spot for the "CGI animated kiddie film with anthropomorphic, hip-talking animals" in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, could not come to be, as it wilt under the power of Bond.

The previous record was held by Pierce Brosnan's 007 in 2002's Die Another Day, which took in $47 million. Even adjusted for inflation, Quantum handily defeats it.

So it's clear now, that "James Blonde" is no joke. When you take darker, grittier action, the luscious Russian babe who got very, very naked in Hitman, and a Star Trek trailer to boot, you get a winning box office formula.
