Panasonic to Gobble Up Sanyo

Slowing consumer demand in a capitalist world means little guys get swallowed by big guys so they both can survive. Such is the way with two Japanese electronics manufacturers, as Panasonic will soon be buying Sanyo for around $8.8 billion.

The buy will put Panasonic, the world's leader in plasma televisions, squarely in second place as the world's largest conglomerate with a major electronics division, behind General Electric. Panasonic will also become leading providers for rechargeable batteries, which are supplied to cell phones, PCs, and an increasing number of automobiles.

So, what does this mean for you? The bad side of capitalism; less competition which equals higher prices. Yay!
