Microsoft Australia Drops Xbox 360 Price Once Again

Microsoft is making a bold move by reducing its Xbox 360 console price again just in time for the holidays. Although the core system lacks a hard-drive which reduces your ability to save content and go online, for AU$299 ($196.99 US), it will allow you to play Gears of War 2.

It's also $100 cheaper than the Wii, and it's 57% cheaper than the PS3 model which sells for AU$699 ($460.38 US).

Microsoft has also cut their Premium Console's price at AU$399 ($263.13 US); and the Elite, which features the larger hard-drive, at AU$549 ($361.97 US).

This is sure to benefit holiday sales for Microsoft as they have a strong line-up of exclusive titles, whereas Wii in comparison, lacks DVD playback; has limited online functionality with inferior technology; and costs consumers $100 more?

It makes you ponder at what cost Microsoft is committed to reign supreme regardless of cost or loss they make on console sales? Or is this just a flicker of a showdown for the holiday price wars?

You are wrong on so many levels, history repeats itself and you know what? The Ps3 sold more last Christmas even with the 600 dollar tag. There is no way in hell they will dominate consider BLU-RAY PRICES WILL DROP FOR X-MAS, so don't keep your hopes up.

if blu-ray players prices are going to drop then wouldent people just buy a blu-ray player? i got one on my computer so i dont cause how much they cost. and he isent wrong on so many levels xbox is leading by alot in number sold...

So the price dropped 3 dollars? Your kidding me right? Oh and I have no idea what you are saying, are you anti-Wii? andti-360? or anti-Ps3?

More like with the economies failing, people aren't buying crap anymore, but saving up for quality items like a PS3 that will last you a decade instead of another 2 years.

I love it how ya'll think that the 360 is cheaper than the PS3. I bet there isn't a SINGLE player among you that doesn't play online. If you pay for online more than 3 years, you already over pay for as much as it costs for the PS3. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle...Which PS3 won.

ROFL... you think the people that buy wii's care about this or even know the difference... NO DVD playback.... Oh No's... inferior technology... that doesn't stop the 360... limited online functionality.... something else wii buyers could care less about...

360 should stick to it's hardcore roots... It will never be seen as a family console.

Buy the new CHEAPER X-box 360 in Australia! It's cheaper cause... well, they cut all the good stuff out of the games there, and why would you want to pay more money when the government is just goin'a murder the hell out of what's allowed in games anyways...

If Australians didn't have the most badass accents in the WORLD... I'd point my finger at the whole lot of them and laugh.

bluray movies are still about 30 bucks. that format won't become the new norm until that price is more comparable to a 15 dollar dvd. economy is in the crapper and most ppl won't buy bluray movies unless they are second hand off of ebay. i know there are those who say "some cost 25 on amazon!"....that is still 10 bucks more than the average dvd. bluray won't sell the machine. games will.

I have to agree that while there wil always be those willing to pay more to get generally the same DVD the present economy will slow bule dvd sales for the present. even those with players may do more renting than buying.

your bs3 got nothing on my pc, and pc will always be the dominate platform for gaming and the ps3 has no good games worth mentioning , everything on the 360 is or eventually coming to pc so theres no need for me to get one

I'll agree BD is not the standard yet... but I see movies at target for $25 bucks all the time.. and sometimes less... the only ones that are $30 and higher are boxsets... or tv shows... whether people have the money for something or they don't they will still buy it... My wife isn't a huge tech buff and most of the time she could care less, but she can't wait for LoTR to come out on BD... she refuses to buy the DVD set, so I'd say BD is on it's way to working into the public collective that Blue is better... lol

and there are rumors of a $150 BD players coming out this christmas...

25 is still significantly higher than the standard 12-15 dollar dvd. I understand there is a quality difference...I own a PS3 and see firsthand the quality offered. I see lots of brand new releases that sell for 30 dollars. I just think that current price is too expensive too make a huge push. Kinda like the cheap printer but the expensive as hell ink. I also am not going to replace sets I currently own on DVD with a BD counterpart. For example...I won't buy Band of Brothers or Sopranos seasons on BD.

yeah I'm by no means replacing my whole dvd library... but curtain titles that will be improved upon with BD I'm all over. Ironman is is like $24 at target... isn't that a new release?... I see very few at the $29.99 price point... but yes it is too much to pay for curtain movies.. would I buy my wife 27 dresses on BD... hell no... that's DVD for sure... but ironman... yeah that's a BD pick.

oh and on a side note... my friend that is 360 all the way... is sending his launch console back for the second time... just RROD on him during Fable2 the other day... 360 just keeps proving to me why I'm glad I didn't get one... I did buy one at one point... brought it home... thought about it and took it back for a refund... and bought some gear for my PC... lol
