Harmonix Founders Split $300 Million Bonus

Posted by Brian Leahy - Tuesday, November 11, 2008 6:30 AM

Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy, the founders of Harmonix, must be feeling super extra-awesome right about now because they've just received a $300 million bonus to split from MTV Games and Viacom.

The duo, which founded Harmonix in 1995 while they were at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, "received $150 million last quarter for exceeding performance targets" and stand to gain another $150 million in bonuses in 2009.

"We may not have anticipated the payment would be that high, but it's based on what they have achieved," said Viacom spokeswoman Kelly McAndrew.

If anyone had any doubts about the success of Harmonix and Rock Band, this should be your evidence that the franchise is doing extremely well and is definitely worth the $175 million that MTV paid to purchase the studio.

It's at this point that G4tv.com would like to remind Alex and Eran how awesome we've been to them and their games. We're not asking for any money, but if they could help out with some bus fare...?

Rock on, guys.

Too bad they'll probably have to use all the money to convince Led Zeppelin to come to Rock Band.

@jaychuck,

If they can convince Zeppelin to come to Rock Band, their following bonus will be like $500 million. Especially after The Beatles Game releases.

$300 million bonus? Sure, I'm glad to give you $60 for a video game I'll get tired of in a month. Excuse me while I extract the rest of the blood from this turnip.
