Steven Spielberg and Will Smith To Remake 'Old Boy'

It seems that Steven Spielberg and Will Smith are looking to collaborate on a remake of the successful 2003 Korean film Old Boy. (Whether they will "rape" it or not, is another question.) Dreamworks, meanwhile is currently in the process of securing the rights, while Universal will distribute.

The original 2003 film, based on the popular Japanese manga of the same name, is about a man named Dae-su, who is inexplicably kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years. One day, he is released just as inexplicably, complete with clothes, money, and cell. Dae-su nevertheless becomes obsessed on finding his captors to quench his desire for revenge and his curiosity for the reasons.

It is generally believed that Smith will play the kidnapped protagonist, who will likely not be named Dae-su for obvious reasons.
