U.S. Army Designs Its Own "World of Warcraft"

Posted November 7, 2008 - By Sinden Lee

We may soon see life imitate art. Senior Army game designer, Dr. Roger Smith would like to see a Massive Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) for Army personnel training.

The Army's version would run on a secure central server in the U.S. and its soldiers could access it in locations worldwide.

Dr. Smith says, "Potentially an MMOG could be created which adheres to the physical and behavioral reality of the world and provides an 'always on' environment in which to execute training, something like 'World of Warcraft,' but focused on the military training customer."

There is current funding behind this project so it will be exciting to see it come to fruition to prepare the U.S. Army for combat on a grand scale.

Let's just hope it doesn't have a monthly subscription fee!
