Smashing Pumpkins Rock 'Guitar Hero World Tour' Launch

Posted October 27, 2008 - By Stephen Johnson

On October 25th, some lucky fans and VIP guests got a chance to play Guitar Hero World Tour and see The Smashing Pumpkins play at World Tour’s midnight launch at Best Buy in West Hollywood, CA.

Hosting the event was Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray and spinning was DJ Jazzy Jeff, perhaps best known for his stint on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Surprisingly, the Pumpkins didn’t play their biggest hits or earlier material (save “Siva” off of Gish), but mostly new tracks including “G.L.O.W.” which appears in the game. No “Today”? Really? It's worth noting that Frontman Billy Corgan was dressed exactly as his character appears in World Tour, skirt and all.

Following the show, copies of the game went on sale at Best Buy,  and there’s no doubt that plenty of annoyed neighbors were subjected to renditions of “Livin’ On A Prayer” and “Beat It” long into the morning hours.
