HDTV Numbers Now Surpass Standard TV's

Posted by Joseph Baxter - Thursday, October 23, 2008 11:27 AM

The changing of the guard in our living rooms is truly here. iSuppli is reporting a 20% compound annual increase in the shipment of HDTV's. This growth will move numbers from 97.1 million units last year to 241.2 million by 2012. Conversely, their statistics also show shipments of Standard Definition TV's will decline 27% from 114.8 million last year to 23.1 million by 2012.

According to Sheri Greenspan of iSuppli:

"This means the costs to providers to generate and deliver HD content is becoming minimal, and that savings is being passed along to the eager consumers who are waiting anxiously to view HD on their TV or Internet."

Even the current numbers show HDTV shipments will reach 124.2 million units, while Standard TV shipments fall to 86.6 million. A dramatic shift in just a few years.

So like Nintendo said, there's no need for a HD game system, people really don't have many HD-tv's, and arn't buying them that quickly......

/shakes head

Do the bloggers here suffer from brain damage?

TV manufacturers aren't producing analog TVs as much, so it makes sense to see a rise in HDTV sales.

When was the last time you entered an electronics store? Try FINDING an analog TV. They'll be in the very far back, awaiting purchase.

Mark this blog down for a -1, please.
