Sam Raimi Dumps Jack Ryan For Peter Parker

Posted by Joseph Baxter - Thursday, October 23, 2008 9:59 AM

It seems that Sam Raimi is really psyched to do more Spider-Man sequels. After the recent revelation that Raimi planned to shoot two more (final) Spidey films at the same time, it has now been revealed that he solidified that commitment by giving up making the new Tom Clancy "Jack Ryan" series film to which he was attached.

“I love Tom Clancy, and I hope they’d keep me in mind,” Raimi shrugged, admitting that he couldn’t realistically make a Jack Ryan movie for half a decade or more. “But because I’m committed to ‘Spider-Man and making that picture, I think it’s going to knock me out of the running for the Jack Ryan picture.”

Raimi is said to be "really excited about Spider-Man." We've seen two Spider-Man films where Raimi's heart was in it (Spider-Man 1 & 2) and one where he was forced to compromise his creative control and include a villain that did not fit (Spider-Man 3), so this may be good news for fans. To know that we have a rededicated and possibly refocused Raimi at the helm of these sequels may mean we have GOOD things in store for us fans.

I am lost at what you are trying to say to me. Is this code for better than Iron Man?

'and one where he was forced to compromise his creative control and include a villain that did not fit (Spiderman 3)'

Being forced to make a movie with over several hundred million dollar budget isn't any excuse to not do your best.

You made Spiderman 3 suck Raimi. Get a new director.

I don't know if this is good or bad. Good, because that means the world is spared of a bad Tom Clancy movie, but bad that Sam Raimi will ruin Spiderman even more.

Gosh, what to do, what to do?!.. Do I further decimate the Marvel IP or does I start to destroy another well established Clancy franchise. This truly is a tough choice..

It appears now that the best news for fans is that Raimi is human and thus mortal therefore will die at some point and stop making awful movies.

Excuses, excuses! Raimi just admit part3 was all yours & leave Spider-Man alone!!!!

Raimi is awesome and he will fking make a killer spiderman movie for that piece of sh't spiderman3. I do believe that he was forced to do sh't he didn't want to. Movie studios do that all the time. They made their money, they could care less if we liked it. Also without Raimi there will be not Bruce Campbell and that is blasphemy

Sam Raimi is Sam Raimi and the poor guy can't help it. Unless Marvel Studios has a gun to his head he doesn't have to do anything he doesn't want to do. Spiderman 3 was a failure of a film simply blowing its load over the first weekend. Spiderman was the best in the series, Spidey 2 and 3 were decent enough to be in the same breath with Catwoman, Daredevil, Elektra, and Ghostrider, DC or Marvel, directors need to do what the fans want and not what THEY think would make a good story. Not all of them are Jon Favreau, he at least gave Iron Man to the fans.
