'Wii Music': No. 1 In Japan

Posted by John Manalang - Thursday, October 23, 2008 7:57 AM

Despite the title's mixed audience appeal, Shigeru Miyamoto's orchestra with his latest music title, Wii Music, received a warm welcome in Japan as it topped the sales charts in its first week of release.

Wii Music flew out of Japanese retail shelves with 92,000 units sold, outselling Pokemon Platinum for the DS, Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida for the PSP, and two more DS titles. We'll see how North American audiences reacted to Wii Music next month, when the NPD releases October's sales information.

You know, I'm pretty sure it'll do well over here. And let's face it, there are gonna be people who are gonna purchased it.

I guess I'll be jammin out with my little nephews and nieces...just as long I have smoke rings coming out of my head, it'll be cool, LOL!!

Is it out in North America? I don't doubt Wii music will have great success in North America. Pretty much Wii's audience is made up of people who will enjoy this.

I feel bad for the core gamer who was used to the way Nintendo gaming was.

Posted by notinjuschillin - Thursday, October 23, 2008 10:48 AM

My apologies to anyone that I may offend...
IN MY OPONION...those gay Wii games are making gamers look like pansies.

I been a gamer a long time and I remember a time where being a gamer wasnt something you just outright said to ppl.
Admiting youre a gamer back then was like admiting you played with kid toys.

Since then, beginging with the PS2, gaming has went mainstream but for some reason, in my opinion, Nintendo is bent on keeping gamers in the stone age.

Posted by ted772 - Thursday, October 23, 2008 10:57 AM

@notinjuschillin
- good point, but the truth is, Nintendo is trying very hard to reach a larger range of people
- as for keeping gamers in the stone age, that's the funniest bull I've herd since the only thing that the other two nameless consoles have brought, is larger memory and better graphics. So they are keeping gamers in the "polished Stone age"

@Brooklyn Owns
-your just as funny as notinjuschilin, won't be very successful, but it is targeted to the people who own wii's. Your a Hypocrite, If what you say is tru, this game will outsell almost any other game out there.

Posted by adonaisaves - Thursday, October 23, 2008 12:42 PM

I was actually sad, disappointed, and disheartened to see it being #1. Since it did so well, it's proved Nintendo's point that most people are brain-dead and want things to keep them busy whilst they drool in their dribble glass and moan due to lack of brain activity. And so, the big 'N' will continue to put out crap ahead of real games.

Although, after seeing what equally ridiculous games it beat for number 1 (Pokemon and Yuusha...), I think it's no wonder it's number one. Either every kid under 11 owns this game in Japan, or the adult Japanese culture has denegrated from hardcore ninja to retarded panda bear in the last 5-10 years (in a manner of speaking...).

Why do we not have a new Zelda? The world seems full of spectators of all things shiny. Epic fail.

This isn't a surprise. Japan completely devours any shovelware Nintendo puts out there. Wii Music is no exception.

Posted by at0mict0ast - Thursday, October 23, 2008 2:43 PM

Its funny, I used to think japan got all the COOL video games.

Posted by BrooklynOwns - Thursday, October 23, 2008 4:57 PM

@ted772

Hypocrite? Did you even understand my post. Look at my comment.

I said
"I don't doubt Wii music will have great success in North America"

Do you know what that means? It means I believe Wii music will be very successful. If I would of said "I doubt Wii music will be successful" than that would be a different story but I didn't say that.

@notinjuschillin
in many places it's still considered that.Did you forget Hot coffee and all that BS about how MATURE games are making KIDS violent?? Gaming will be trully mainstream when saying you're a gamer is the same as being a sports fan(any sport). If you like to watch football/basketball or not nobody really calls you childish for it. It not gay wii games that make gamers look like pansies it the gamers that play all day long, week after week without being paid/making a living that make our hobby look childish. Face you play whatever game and accomplish whatever in it in a NONTOURNAMENT setting and no one really cares. If you go to a bar afterwards you don't get free beers or hook up with supermodels.

@BrooklynOwns
Don't feel sorry for because
1 The Nintendo games like Metroid,Mario, and Zelda are still there and coming.
2 I don't have the time to play games like i could 10 years ago.

I 'm really busy these days working so i don't need a new game every 4 days. I love this break because it let me play and enjoy my backlog and get better at games i put down years ago. People are always writing posts about all the great games on their favorite platforms. If they're so great why did you stop playing them? A great game like a great movie never really grows old.

@topic title

well no *bleep*, is anyone surprised by this? They can package a turd in a box, call it Wii turd, and it would still sell like hotcakes in Japan.

In case you couldn't guess, I won't be getting Wii Music. I already have a two music games that are ten times better, they're called Rock Band and Guitar Hero.

Posted by ted772 - Friday, October 24, 2008 10:06 AM

@ BrooklynOwns
sorry, didn't see don't

Posted by BrooklynOwns - Friday, October 24, 2008 1:33 PM

@dbzwiifan18

That's your personal case. I'm pretty sure there are millions of Wii owners who would love to put in hours upon hours of gaming on the Wii but they can't due to lack of content.

Your lifestyle of hardwork, waiting for the next Mario, Zelda, Metroid title and preference to play old games from back in the day doesn't excuse Wii's lack of content. People bought a Wii and the system should provide the consumer with lots of content. Whether you have the time or not to play them is irrelevent. The choice should still be there.
