Sony Releases 15th 'EverQuest' Expansion: 'Seeds of Destruction'

Posted by Brian Leahy - Wednesday, October 22, 2008 10:52 AM

EverQuest, the landmark MMORPG from Sony Online Entertainment, has just seen the release of its 15th expansion pack after almost 10 years of uptime.

The expansion, titled EverQuest Seeds of Destruction, is available now as a digital download from Sony for $39.99 at everquest.com.

What could they still possibly add to this PC MMO? Hit the jump to find out.

EverQuest Seeds of Destruction Feature Set:

  • Mercenaries: Player-controlled NPCs are now available and will not only scale to the appropriate level but also think and act for themselves with limited player guidance. Designed for extra support or extra muscle in PvE encounters, mercenary archetypes include a variety of classes from all playable races.
  • Level Cap Increase: Players can now achieve level 85 with new high-level item sets, new alternate advancement ability lines and new spells.
  • 20 New Zones: Experience reimagined classic content and brand-new realms for adventurers to explore, including the eerie wasteland of the Void, the Battle of Rathe on the Plane of Earth and the ultimate Heart of Darkness in the Plane of Discord.
  • Access to All Previous Content: Includes all features and content from the 14 previous expansion packs.
  • Legends of Norrath: Includes strategic online trading card game, digital starter deck, booster pack and loot item.

For a 10 year old game, that certainly is a lot of new content. Mercenaries will definitely be a huge change to the PvE gameplay and new levels are always fun.

At this point, it'd be crazy to try and jump into EverQuest for the first time, but subscribers are lucky to have the continued support of Sony over all these years.

Why would it be crazy to jump in for the first time?

I mean
1) It going to continue to be around alot longer than these fly by night new MMO
2) In 10 years the game play has been re-fined so that your going to get one of the best playing experiences.
3) If your looking to have fun with others you have established guilds, economies to participate in. Plus plenty of people where you can build your own if you want.

@altizar

How quickly people forget how broken EQ was. It started as a great idea, but has been vastly improved on by its competition. It gave masses of people an appetite for something better, that something was (and continues to be) WoW.

It's...called Wrath? Not Rise...?

Posted by Blackusai - Wednesday, October 22, 2008 1:05 PM

Lol @ Rise
He said that with should confidence! And i think it would been hard to join EQ because of the many expansions you would have to buy and patches to download, it would be crazy.

@Blackusai

Each new expansion contains all of the previous expansions and is patched to the live game.

I played EQ back in the day, quit for three years, then thought, "Heh, it would be fun to install and see what's goin' on." They added SO much stuff, i was lost. like, I had no idea where I was, what I was doing. All these new windows and options popped up, the world was so large... there was no way to get back into it. Tried EQ2, thought it was better in pretty much every way, and haven't looked back.

@ triple6ix

this game has over 6 million subscribers. its not a game tht made people want something else obviously by those numbers. il admit that i was a WoW fan when i played it and thought ive never played this game some respect should be givin to a game lasting this long and still going very strong

@adonasiaves and Bleahy

Yeah, but that's the point. My most memorable MMO Experience was logging in for the first time and wandering around Freeport trying to figure out what the heck I'm doing where the hell anything was and what everything was.

The whole point of playing a MMO is to have a large complex world to play in. Otherwise, you should just stick with Halo or God of War.
