Did Mel Turn Down 'Lethal Weapon 5'?

Posted October 13, 2008 - By Joseph Baxter

It seems like we won't get a chance to see Sgt. Riggs slam his shoulder into the nearest wall after dislocating it for the 10,000th time. Richard Donner, director of the entire quartet of Lethal Weapon films has claimed in a recent interview that Mel Gibson has no plans to return to the franchise.

This is after recent news that Columbus Short had been tapped to play Nick, the son of Danny Glover's character Sgt. Murtaugh.

Says Donner:

"I would like to think that Mel turned it down because I wasn't involved. Knowing Mel, I would like to think that. Would that be the kind of thing he does? It sure would be."

While nothing is officially confirmed, the sources are pretty confident that this may be the end of any hopes of reviving the Lethal Weapon franchise. (Short of a remake...God forbid.)

Sad? Relieved? DGAF?
