Verizon has decided to start charging $0.03 per for mobile-terminated messages sent to its customers. that means that companies that send text messages (Google SMS, Yahoo! oneSearch, etc.) will have to pony up dough to do it.
While this charge doesn't apply to the text messages you send your friend, it does mean that companies that send out mass SMS messages may no longer be able to afford to continue the practice, where Verizon will no doubt make a killing off charging their larger customers to send texts.
All of the above assumes that global industrial capitalism doesn't completely collapse in the next few weeks, of course.
