In a recent interview with IGN, actor Columbus Short (Stomp the Yard) admitted to being in talks for a role in the upcoming FIFTH installment of the Lethal Weapon franchise. It's looking like he may end up playing "Nick" the son of Danny Glover's character, Sgt. Murtaugh. (Originally played by Damon Hines in the first four films.) The film is said to center on a final case before partners Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Murtaugh (Danny Glover) retire for good. Although, it should be said that Gibson and Glover are not confirmed for the film as of yet.
In an era where old franchises are revived at whim, it's probably not a huge shocker that another Lethal Weapon is planned. What's puzzling here is the seeming finality at the end of the fourth installment, where the proverbial "torch" was passed to Chris Rock's character, and the photo montage at the end that just screamed "that'll just about do it, thanks for watching." How much marrow could there possibly be left to suck out of the bones of this franchise?
