'Deus Ex 3' Details Emerge

Posted by John Manalang - Monday, October 06, 2008 7:17 AM

At long last, Eidos Interactive has given details on the next installment for their highly acclaimed FPS-RPG title, Deus Ex 3. The original title was released in June 2000 for the PC, garnerning praises from fans and critics due to its engaging gameplay mechanics.

This third title from the series will serve as a prequel to the storyline, bringing back original Deus Ex and Deus Ex 2 designers Warren Spector and Harvey Smith. Series writer Sheldon Pacotti will also be involved in the project. "The art direction is a beautiful meld of the renaissance and cyberpunk (tying into the game's Leonardo Da Vinci motif)," according to CVG's report.

Deus Ex 3 will still utilize an RPG-experience system just like its previous installments. Players will take the role of Adam Jensen, whose occupation is a security officer at a biomechanical augmentation lab. For those of you who are not familiar with the series, augmentation are the cybernetic devices/inputs that players use to customize their characters--boosts specific parts of the body such as arms, legs, eyes, etc. So far, 20 augmentations have been confirmed for the final game.

Deux Ex 3 follows the latest Invisible War title, released in 2003 for the PC. The title is set to hit stores next holiday season for the PS3, PC and Xbox 360 platforms.

I wasn't too impressed with Invisible War so I'll be interested to see how the new Deus Ex stacks up against the original.

Yeah, the rag doll physic was stupid as hell. I always see them do backflips almost every time I kill an enemy and sometimes they break dance...

"Deus Ex 1"= Greatest Game Ever.

I was a bit disappointed with "Invisible War" but I'm still hyped as hell over this.

i liked the first one the best, invisible war was just ok. they needed to bring back more old faces. they brought back paul denton tong, nicolette, and chadd in invisable war but i would have liked to see maybe jaime reyes or alex jacobson. Was also great you could go to the old UNATCO headquarters. its to bad they were bad guys, i would have liked to stay with unatco if we could in the first one lol.

Considering how much the second one just got things wrong, I'm going to be hesitantly looking forward to this. Hopefully they learned their lesson and aren't going for an action-oriented and dumbed-down version again. Deus Ex was amazing for it's story and the way the plot progressed, which was slow by action game standards and involved a lot of non-shooting. The branching substories felt open-ended and overall it just worked.

To me Deus Ex 3 is going to hinge on a couple of things. First, they have to throw in just about every conspiracy theory out there. That was a big part of what made the first game so much fun. Second, they need to break ties from the other games. Prequel or not, they don't need to hint at things that don't matter. No JC, UNATCO can be in it but doesn't need to be central, etc. I just hope they aren't going to make this about the rise of the plague that started the first game off.

i pre-gray death era would be cool imo jargy, i want to know how bob paige became a millionaire, what really happened to JC's family/parents? i remember from reading a book in UNATCO HQ that unatco was made from president mead saying that terrorism needs a new enemy (unatco). but how did it really form? how did bob paige and his colleagues disband from the illumanati? so many questions i would like to know that the 2 games did not answer.
