After almost facing an end to their excellent service, uber-leet internet radio site Pandora will now live longer for our listening pleasures, after Congress passed the Webcaster Settlement Act last night. Tim Westergren, founder of Pandora, said before, "We're approaching a pull-the-plug kind of decision," due to potential copyright infringements suits from music labes and financial struggles.
The new settlement will allow internet radio providers, such as Pandora, to acquire lower royalty payments with music companies. However, the President still has to sign the bill, which there would be no reason not to, and copyright holders must negotiate with both sides--radio and music label--in order to get a deal settled. Still, we're tuning in to Pandora right now, and we're damn happy. I love you.
