Reggie's right when he says "it's all about entertainment." That's what a lot of Nintendo critics don't get.

Oh well. Hey I have no problem leaving the system off until next year. It's not like I won't have enough to play with Fable 2, Saints ow 2, and GTA IV DLC.

Actually should unplug it and save on power too.

psp's recent "upgrade" seem minimal compared to the DSi. (oh yeah i typed that, flame on) goodbye psp, hello N-ew world. . .

I'm not a closed minded fan of any of the brands (Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony), but I just have one thing to say... Way to go Nintendo, for copying the PSP! You, like the other two companies, are just as much to blame for idea rip-offs/copies.

Posted by Intangible_Cog - Thursday, October 02, 2008 4:22 PM
Don't get me wrong, I own a GBA SP, but many of the new specs for the DSi sound similar to the specs for the PSP. 1)SD card slot, 2)Wifi enternet access, 3)Camera, and 4)Bigger screen(s)... All of which the PSP currently has, except for a second (USELESS) screen. All of these gaming companies are becoming tired. Where are the fresh ideas?

Posted by Intangible_Cog - Thursday, October 02, 2008 4:30 PM
What ever happened to the saying, "quality over quantity!" I'm seeing a lot (which is an understatement) of Pokemon and Advertisement (Disney, Mattel, Nickalodeon) games, but nothing worth blowing money on a new handheld. They've certainly got the quantity down, so where's the quality?

Nintendo's DSi, and their tired, same-old "Advertisement" 16-bit games = EPIC FAIL!

Oh, and to let everyone know, I'm not trying to start a flame-war; in fact I used to own a SNES, N-64, and currently own a NGcube, Wii, and GBA SP. I've been a Nintendo fan since I was a kid. But have been a little disappointed in Nintendo's recent lack of vision.

Posted by ghost120XH - Thursday, October 02, 2008 4:51 PM
I'm getting this and for all those people who says this is a psp rip off are wrong.If Nintendo wanted to copy the psp they would make crappy ass games(the only good games psp have are rip offs of great ps2 titles) and focus mostly on media which other devices can do way better. I had a psp then sold it for a ds lite it was the best choice i made.

Posted by Manifest37 - Thursday, October 02, 2008 5:51 PM
Reggie has a silver tongue and the interviewer is gay.

@ Intangible
I was once like you: a hardcore Nintendo fan, since the NES... but the Wii's lack of games sent me into the arms of the PS3, 1 months ago.
Now I dwell in her safe bosom and as I suckle on her teat, I know this is gaming.

Posted by Intangible_Cog - Thursday, October 02, 2008 9:18 PM
@ghost120XH I mentioned early I wasn’t starting a flame-war, but if you really want to go there? Then let’s talk about these game rip offs; starting with your comment, “If Nintendo wanted to copy the psp they would make crappy ass games(the only good games psp have are rip offs of great ps2 titles)…” 1) Both the PSP and PS2 are made by the same company, 2) Sony themselves said the PSP is like a PS2, but in handheld form, and the big kicker 3) Nintendo’s DS utilizes 16-bit titles that were already introduced back in the SNES days; titles like: Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid Prime ,and many more.

Posted by Intangible_Cog - Thursday, October 02, 2008 9:19 PM
@ghost120XH Also, other rip offs include games that are released for home consoles like: Call of Duty, Super Mario Bros., Lego batman, Lego Starwars, Star Wars force unleashed, all of the Final Fantasy games, and the list goes on! I’ve seen little to no originality in the DS games you so highly praise. But, I digress, I’m certain you must find all of those repetitive, childish Pokemon games fun and exciting; and you must love playing other companies advertisements, such as Mattel’s My Little Pony, Disney’s Friends, or even Nickelodeon’s Nancy Drew.

Posted by Intangible_Cog - Thursday, October 02, 2008 9:33 PM
@ghost120XH
I guess the point I’m trying to make here is, ghost120XH, stop being a corporate sheep and stop buying into what today’s “fad” is. That’s why the Wii, and DS are selling so well; it’s because people like you have to go run out and buy the next “in” product “because everyone else has one.” Be an individual; demand quality because you deserve it! Or continue to be a mindless stereotype, and thus would end all hopes to reason with you.

Okay, I think this needs to stop.

Intangible_Cog, you said you were not trying to start a flame war, yet you post 8 posts flaming the DS and Nintendo.
I don't see why you should get all riled up about someone negatively criticizing your system. If you like it enough, it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks, right? Or do you feel you need to defend it because, as the great Yahtzee Croshaw once said, and this can be applicable to systems as well as games, "if you feel like you have to defend a game that you've purchased your only trying to convince yourself that it's fun because there's always that snickering little doubt in the back of your mind saying that maybe your not having as much fun as you think you are" (generalized quote).

Posted by TriChronos - Thursday, October 02, 2008 10:39 PM
The same goes for you, ghost120XH. Don't bash a system just to put yours upon the pedestal instead. You shouldn't have to defend it, or Nintendo for that matter, unless you'd like to make a valid argument for your case instead of just stating that your big defense is that the other guy sucks. That, sir, is just extremely weak. Enjoy the system you have and pray to the gaming gods for those who are unlucky enough to not have any.

I loved Nintendo's conference. It was a great step up from the horror that has become known as E308. I think Nintendo announced more than enough "core" style titles that everyone can be happy about (Sin and Punishment 2!). I will give Nintendo an overall good job on this one. Sure, they may have botched 2008 a bit, but I think 2009 might be a good year.

You know with the DS being out for so long you would've expected Nintendo to maybe improve the performance instead of just improving the physical appearance. I love what Nintendo did with the DS Light. But seriously, do we really need a DS media player!? I mean sure maybe the camera would be a good asset to gameplay, but what I really want to see is better graphics!

I don't want to start a big argument over this but Sony has managed to put a media player, internet browser, and even provide feature films (via UMD) for their PSP. Why is it that Nintendo is stuck in the last generation!? When I heard that Nintendo was going to come out with a new DS I was jumping for joy! The Nintendo fan inside of me was happy once more, until they stabbed me in the back by showing off the same DS but with a camera. Seriously, who is going to use a camera on their DS?

@Intangible_Cog

I've seen c o c kroaches act in a more intelligent manner than you.
If you come into a room and punch someone in the face, then you tell him you don't want to fight, and then you punch him again, what would you expect the guy to do?

You attack the DS, and say you don't want a flame war. Then ghost120XH posts a comment that you disagree with and you attack him. And yet you want to "reason" with him? Are you stupid?

Posted by mercisan - Friday, October 03, 2008 2:38 AM
cont.

You are so ignorant, that don't seem to realize that the DS has had wi fi for a very long time already. The psp doesn't even have a camera. It's an add-on accessory that doesn't even exist in the US yet. SD card slot you say? Since when does the psp have that? As far as I know, it has a memory stick slot, not SD. Does the psp have a touchscreen? NO. 16 bit games, huh? What a misinformed douche! FYI the DS is supposed to be approximately as powerful as the N64.

And did you miss all the complaints from sony of how the psp lacks 3rd party support? I can go on and on about this, but it's not worth my time. My point here is that you are talking out of your ass simply because you can. All your claims are false.

I love the psp. I've said this many times around here. I was poised to buy one, but unfortunately ghost120XH is right: most psp games are ps2 ports. The other features it has are of no use to me because I already have other devices that offer them too.

Posted by mercisan - Friday, October 03, 2008 2:58 AM
@Mattoryan
Did you watch the video? Reggie said it himself: it's not intended to replace an actual digital camera. It's another feature that they can use for gaming purposes. It gives developers more options to work with. It's there for "entertainment" purposes. I predict gimmicks on that one, to be honest with you. We've seen those with the microphone (blow to turn off candles or torches), and flip screens (close them to make marks or embossings)
UMD is a failed format when it comes to movies. Obviously nintendo won't follow that road.
And wait, you complain about the DS media player, yet you praise sony for having one on the psp? Uhhh... I don't know what to make out of that. BTW, the ds has a web browser too.
I agree with you on the graphics part. Unfortunately, I don't think it's doable, unless they sacrifice compatibility.

I don't have high hopes for it myself. That's why I'll keep my DS lite.

I guess the GameBoy is officially dead.

In reply to the hypocrites, who feel they need to defend Nintendo for narrow minded reasons, you have done nothing, but take what I have said out of context. Thus only making your selves look more like corporate billboards. I’ll reiterate for those of you who are slow, I have nothing against Nintendo, in fact I am a fan of gaming. If I wanted to start a flame war, I would have said Nintendo sucks and Sony rules, but have done nothing to that affect. To be vengeful like ghost120XH and not only defend a product, but attack me for giving a little criticism to a company who’s products I enjoy, is the epitome of self induced ignorance and instability. Congrats, my hat is off to you, sheep of capitalism.

To put what I tried to say at first post, in layman’s terms; I love Nintendo, but am disappointed in their recent lack of originality. I do NOT own a PSP, but have played one, and I have noticed a SIMILARITY in some of the specs between the PSP and DSi. Yes, the PSP uses what is called a “memory stick”, but for those of you who don’t pay any attention to the products you by, a memory stick is an SD card (just longer); you can also use an SD card in a PSP because the PSP has a SD card slot, which is also compatible with memory sticks. I also said that, the PSP only has one screen, and that the DSi’s similarity there, was that it too will have wider screens like the PSP’s SINGLE screen. And finally, I am not defending any particular product, only commenting on the similarities between two products, and giving criticism where I felt it was needed. When my comment was attacked, I defended by pointing out the flaws in the attackers un-researched, ignorant, and biased opinion.

what about the GBA slot. I like my old GBA games. The N better put out some attachment or download feature to keep them.

Sweet!

Posted by Intangible_Cog - Saturday, October 04, 2008 12:05 PM
I’ve researched the specs for the PSP, and the differences between an SD card and Memory Stick. I stand corrected in my previous comment, where I said the SD card and Memory Stick are the same. Though they both are removable, external memory sources, they are in fact cosmetically different. My apologies to the commenter that stated the difference earlier. This is why I like to research products before I buy them; researching facts helps to decide which products best suites the needs, and not just buying a product because of its popularity, or one’s loyalty to that product’s provider.

@intangible_cog
You did not literally say "nintendo sucks and sony rules", but saying things like "Way to go Nintendo, for copying the PSP" clearly imply it. You said many things that implied it, and bashed nintendo systems with claims that you did not even know were true, and weren't. I'm sorry if I called you names. But your comments were very condescending, and could have enfuriated any nintendo fan. Not because of their loyalty to the company, but because of the way you put things. I will be the first one to admit that Nintendo is not perfect. But then again, all three company's have their ups and downs.
BTW, an SD card and a memory stick are NOT the same. They serve the same purpose, but they are not compatible. An SD card is also much cheaper and are available in higher capacity because it's more of a general purpose removable storage device;whereas a memory stick is sony's proprietary format.
Also, the psp still supports only Memory sticks, not SD cards.
