3D: Coming To More Theaters Near You

Ticket stub distributor companies AMC, Cinemark and Regal Cinemas have agreed to finance thousands of 3D-ready theaters across the country, thanks to a deal made with major movie studios. Lion's Gate, Paramount, Fox, Universal and Disney are all onboard with the project

Sony and Warner Bros. studios weren't mentioned in the deal, but according to the report, the two companies are expected to announce a separate project soon involving Sony's own projection technology. The cost of switching to a digital, 3D-ready projection set-up is around $70,000, so expect your local box offices to demand a bit more in ticket prices.

No word official word yet on when the new projects will roll out, but we expect it to be around Summer 2009's box office assault. Now, about improving those concession stands...
