Microsoft Posts Big Xbox Live Arcade Sales, Up 67% In August

August has been a big month for Microsoft in terms of their Xbox Live Arcade service with the company seeing a 58% increase in unique users purchasing games from XBLA.

This increase in users has also led to a 67% increase in revenue generated by XBLA game sales. This increase is over the previous monthly high. Although Microsoft isn't releasing exact numbers, we're assuming the previous monthly high was 67% less than this August.

August was when high-profile XBLA titles Braid, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Castle Crashers (pictured above), and Geometry Wars 2 were released.

I downloaded both Braid and Castle Crashers. They were fantastic games. Braid was especially fun because it made me feel like I was playing Portal again. Figuring out all the intricate puzzles was loads of fun.

Actually, I think some of the 360's best games are arcade titles. The two I just mentioned along with Puzzle Quest, Alien Hominid, and Pac Man Championship Edition.

id say most of the sales were castle crasher. everyone i know bought it and played it to death. here is to hoping they make a second one, or some really nice dlc.

is this really news... 3 successful games come out for XBLA in a month... and that translates into more profit than a month with little to nothing released... none the less it's good to see something out on XMLA that would be worth buying.

On the people buy a hard drive for the arcade 360... more than likely they just go buy the 360 premium or elite... and sell or give away the arcade. most of the casual gamers that buy an arcade and then upgrade... either "A" don't even know you can buy a hard drive for the arcade... or "B" don't want to mess with it.

2008 Holiday hasn't even started yet. I can guaranteed you that there will be loads and loads of surprises in 2009 for both Xbox 360 and PS3 but right now, they're focusing on this holiday season. Funny, someone asked the exact same question last year and look at it now.

1. So amazing downloadable games dont count cause they arent retail??? thats very stupid of u to say.

Ghost, I was willing to let you go on your list til #3... That's another one of those "facts" that cannot be debated one way or another.

(again, that's because NEITHER sony nor MS give exact numbers on their downloads from the stores.)

As for #4.. i'd have to go back and check, but I would have swore (but haven't seen an updated list...) that Sony had the bigger list to start '09?

that remains to be seen Damien... I'd wager for every 1 "AAA" title that's announced, there's usually two or three "A" or "B" titles (sometimes sleepers that aren't announced).

besides, I never look more than 1 or 2 periods ahead... hate to get my expectations up only to get burned (Ghostbusters, anyone?)
