If you somehow managed to get into Rock Band 2 without getting the first game at all, well you'll be saddened to learn that the songs from the first game will not be available for download any time soon, which means those who missed the first Rock Boat will not be able to play songs from disc one.
Harmonix has instead decided to keep 1 on the market concurrent with 2. The reasoning being some people may just make that purchase to get all the songs in the arsenal. There are ways around that of course. You could just borrow a copy from a friend, but the friendless among us may have to go so far as to rent the game to grab up the RB1 songs for cheap.
Of course, if that appears to become a popular mode of grabbing up songs, Harmonix might do better to put them up for download so they can make their $1 or $2 per download money instead of the $.30 or whatever it is they make from rentals.
