Microsoft: 'No Plans To Build Our Own Phone'

Posted by John Manalang - Monday, September 29, 2008 10:31 AM

With the success of the iPhone and the unveiling of the Google branded Android, will Microsoft announce their plans to create their own mobile device? Well according to Windows Mobile manager Scott Rockfeld, the company has "no plans" in preparing a Zune phone or any mobile device of their own at all.

"Right now we're happy to share the limelight," said Rockfeld regarding Microsoft's mobile OS. Initially dubbed as the "Pocket PC 2000" application, Windows Mobile is currently utilized in a wide range of cellular devices, such as Samsung's Blackjack phone and T-Mobile's Dash.

Microsoft's entry into the MP3 biz was the Zune, which is still set to compete with Apple's mighty iPod lineup. Many have been speculating that Microsoft will indeed make its way into the mobile hardware industry, especially with the iPhone on the market, but it looks like it's not happening...for now.

I don't like windows mobile...but i'd buy it if for reason they could convince at&t to not charge me 30 bucks per month for data! That is for either a blackberry or an iphone! Thieves!

I think it's a smart thing not to get involved with creating a cell phone. You have to pay for the development of the product and storage and over stock. You dont have to pay for any of that when you strictly focus on the software portion. I mean the i phone 3g is the new thing for NOW. But what about in the next 2 years. Have to come out with a new phone. \

Android is awsome from what I've seen. If MS could take some pointers from Google and get their Windows mobile to work like that, then they would be set.
