Book critics, which until this morning we didn't even know existed, have handed down a rather chiding review for one of the great stories our internet has of real-world success and application, 'I Can Has Cheezburger?'

We've all trolled Flickr late at night, chips and soda in hand, searching for the newest LOLcat pix to satiate or own after hours desires, which is why word of a full volume put out by the first site to get famous off LOLcats, icanhascheezburger.com, was a welcome how-do-you-do to those of us who need LOLcats on the go and can't download the LOLcats iPhone app.

Unfortunately, according to cnet.com, the book fails to deliver the same kind of punch these adorable and failing kittens have on the web, mainly because they omit the best of the bunch in favor of going for a more mainstream audience. This may be a classic case of a publisher steering the book's authors toward the center of what people enjoy as opposed to focusing in on a niche of net fans who geek out to LOLcats to get their jollies.

What is it about the web that makes so many of its children uniquely effective only on computers? This is a larger question than can be answered merely by discussing LOLcats. It is a question that requires much time, thought, research, and insight. And with that, we'll leave you.
