In the event of the Houser brothers's possible departure from Take-Two Interactive, Activision CEO Bobby may have expressed his company's interest in acquiring the Rockstar duo. When asked about the driving forces behind the Grand Theft Auto series today during a company conference, Kotick refused to talk about them directly but simply replied:
"We [Activision] really embrace the individual studio model. We know how to take studios and talented teams and appropriately incentivize them. We’ve definitely become the destination location for independently minded entrepreneurial talent."
Rockstar Games's Sam and Dan Houser's contract with Take-Two Interactive will expire this February 2009. Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter predicts that the two might depart from the publisher, and will spark up a "bidding war" among other companies. The Houser brothers have been the significant powerhouses on Grand Theft Auto's ongoing success.
