'Spore' Manual Misprint Controversy

Posted by John Manalang - Friday, September 12, 2008 11:03 AM

Well this is defintely not another Rick Roll. The user manual in EA's recent simulation hit, Spore, states that "multiple Spore accounts for each installation of the game" are allowed.

Turns out that that whole statement's a big fat lie, as an EA rep confirmed via the game's official forum "that section in the manual was a misprint". After several angry user flames at the forum, the rep replied:

"There is one Spore registration/account per game/serial code so [the users] are correct in that you cannot make multiple accounts at this time. I have sent [the users] feedback to the game team though since I can understand the desire to share a game on a system that you entire family uses."

Electronic Arts will fix this issue in future copies of the title. Spore is now available for the PC and Macintosh platforms.

Well here is my 2 cents worth:
The game would not initialize after I hit the space age. After hours of looking on the Internet for some solution somewhere, here is what I was able to do:
back up my saved game files
uninstall the game.
disable my firewall
disable my anti virus
reinstalled the game
applied a .dll file that EA provided
placed my saved game files back.
My saved games were not recognized. Since I had to install and uninstall, I know only have 1 more install left before the game expires for my system.
They say that this is the most downloaded game ever for torrents. I believe it. People are so angry about the install limit and DRM that they are buying the game, but downloading the torrent version since it is DRM free and will allow you to install the game more than 3 times (and more stable).
And no, I have not downloaded the game from a torrent, I am still using the 3 time install I paid 50.00 for (with 1 install left)
