Following hot on the heels of fellow ‘70s dinosaurs Journey, prog-rockers Yes recently found a new singer on Youtube crooning in a Yes tribute band!
The band, which was forced to cancel a 40th anniversary tour this year due to the illness of lead singer Jon Anderson, has decided to relaunch the tour with "understudy" Benoit David, who sings in several Yes tribute bands in Montreal, Canada.
Anderson is suffering acute respiratory failure and was ordered by doctors to rest for six months. Squire says he is hopeful Anderson will be well enough to do shows next year. David will replace him on the "In the Present" tour, which starts up Nov. 4 in Ontario.
"I think it's all going to work out fine," bassist Chris Squire told the Associated Press. "Of course, realistically, there's an element of risk, but there always is."
Squire found David on the ‘Net after a friend sent him a YouTube clip of David's tribute band, Close To The Edge. Squire dug it and called David over for an audition.
"The first thing he said to me was, 'Well, I'm looking around to see where the cameras are in case I'm being punked,'" Squire said.
No, it’s only the fans that are being punked, Chris…only the fans…
