Samsung UK's director of consumer electronics Andy Griffiths, said the Blu-Ray disc format has a very limited, half-decade lifespan ahead of it.

"I think it [Blu-ray] has 5 years left, I certainly wouldn't give it 10," Griffiths said. He also said 2008 was the year of Blu-Ray: "It's going to be huge", he told Pocket-lint. "We are heavily back-ordered at the moment."

So what will replace it? Although Griffiths didn't say this, we're guessing direct downloading of media. Either that or the development of mind-picture technology to beam other people's actual experiences and memories directly into your mind... oh, wait, that that was Natalie Wood's last movie Brainstorm.
