IE8 To Feature 'Porn Mode' Tools?

Posted by Frank Meyer - Tuesday, August 26, 2008 1:33 PM

Microsoft is implementing new privacy tools in Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) that insiders are calling "porn mode."

"Porn mode," which will debut in IE8 Beta 2 this month, consists of three tools, one of which is called InPrivate Browsing and allows you to browse without IE8 saving your browsing and searching history, cookies, form data and passwords. It also automatically clears the browser cache at the end of your session.

Niiiiice.

The other tools are InPrivate Blocking and InPrivate Subscription, which notifies users of third-party content that can track browsing history and subscribe to lists of sites to block, respectively. Microsoft will also update its existing "Delete Browsing History" by adding an option to preserve bookmarked sites' cookies even when all others are erased.

"When we began planning IE8, we took a hard look at our customers' concerns about privacy on the Web," said Andy Zeigler, an IE program manager. "Many users are concerned about so-called over-the-shoulder privacy, or the ability to control what their spouses, friends, kids and co-workers might see. If you are using a shared PC, a borrowed laptop from a friend or a public PC, sometimes you don't want other people to know where you've been.”

A privacy advocate applauded the move, calling it a "great step forward," prompting rival browser Mozilla to announce it is working to add similar features to Firefox. Mozilla's goal, however, is to allow users to enter a private browsing session, but ask the user if they want to delete all evidence rather than doing it automatically.

This is indeed a "great step forward"…for porn!!!

Thats one small step for man, one giant leap for everyone's manlihood.
The internet is trully built on porn. Research and commerce is just a side note. Now that I am done typing on gaming websites- back to the porn!

Why? So you can hide it from your wife or parents (depending on situation)?

So, cool. I can already do this with Firefox 3. I was doing this in Firefox 2.

Until the IE8 Beta 2 cmes out, if yu need a "porn mode", there are a few Firefox extensions that allow you to do just that. Or you can use Safari, who invented the whole "porn mode", although I don't recommend Safari at all.

IE is just more accessible and familiar, though my friend likes firefox

Sweet! The most important update to IE up to date IMO :)

As an IE8 beta user I can tell you that it does have the InPrivate but doesn't have a "Porn Mode" also I haven't seen any thing about this "Porn Mode" through any official Microsoft channels.

Well microsoft just made up for the patent on the page up page down patent fiasco. PRON 4 FUN

Once again, Microsoft spends more time on bells and whistles rather than actually build the browser's frame to be more compliant with HTML and CSS standards.

IE8 already sucks and it isn't even out yet.

Note to Firefox users: This feature is already available (moreso through extensions) and if you don't know this, you shouldn't be using Firefox.

Sadly disapointed with the feed once again. For an item labeled "Porn Mode", I would have expected a better picture!! Slacker!
