We love Amazon.com for many of reasons: They're one of the few Web 1.0 companies that is still hanging on. They have single-handedly kept our nation's used booksellers in business by organizing them and allowing them to sell us older books for super-cheap, and now, Amazon will start bringing you bigger new videogames on the day they are released.
“We are excited to delight Amazon customers by offering guaranteed release-date delivery of these new video game titles so that the games can arrive at their doors the first day they’re available,” said Greg Hart, vice president of video games and software at Amazon.com in a press release.
So no more midnight trips to Best Buy or half-day line waits for the biggest titles. The first games coming on their day of release are Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 released on Aug. 26, 2008. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be released on Sept. 16, 2008. Fable 2 will be released on Oct. 21, 2008. Gears of War 2 will be released on Nov. 7, 2008.
A personal note: I pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto IV from Amazon and received it the day before the game was supposed to be released, and so Amazon won my undying, gamer loyalty.
