More word from Sony's press conference at the Leipzig Games Convention: A wireless Bluetooth keyboard is coming to the PlayStation 3 controller. The full QWERTY keyboard will attach to your controller and allow for in-game text messaging and out-of-game web navigation, as well as helping you find the media you want if you use the PS3 as a media extender.
Mouse input will also be available, as well as a touchpad mode, that could come into play with future games coming out for the system.
Also, two shortcut buttons, a Communication Button and a Message Box Button, are placed on the lower part of the Wireless Keypad, enabling users to jump to pre-set features on XMB(TM) (XrossMediaBar) such as "Friends" and "Message Box" during game play. The first official title with in-game chat? LittleBigPlanet.
To our eyes, this looks like Sony is really taking steps to make the PS3 into a living room lifestyle machine as opposed to a simple game console. We're psyched.
No word yet on an American release date, but we gotta predict it'll be out by the holidays. We want.
