'Rock Band' Has 7 New Albums Coming In 2008

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Wednesday, August 20, 2008 9:00 AM

Update (8.21.08)  Oops... we got our wires crossed a bit with Harmonix. Turns out that Rush's Moving Pictures is one of seven full Rock Band albums that will be announced by the end of the month, not six as we had originally reported. That's one extra album for you to enjoy.

Get all the details here!

We talked to John Drake, the P.R. Coordinator for Harmonix, and he dropped the word on new Rock Band 2 info that will shake your foundations. Here's the news:

  • There will be six seven new, full albums announced for the music game by the end of the August. One is a metal record, one is alternative, one is a pop album. We don't know which albums they'll be, though, but Harmonix is genuinely excited by the new content.
  • A new, full album will be out by the end of August. We don't know what yet, but we asked if it was Rush's Moving Pictures, and Drake would neither confirm nor deny it.
  • Steely Dan's "Bodhisattva," included with Rock Band 2, is destined to be the most difficult guitar song ever in the series. Drake said the guitar part is "mathematically possible" to play, but, as yet, no one has been able to score 100% on the song. We're sure the legion of Rock Band 2 players out there will take this as a challenge come the release of the game in September!
  • Harmonix plans to hit the 500 song mark for DLC by the end of the year.
  • You will be able to transfer songs from Rock Band's DLC to Rock Band 2, but it will cost you. According to Harmonix:– "Consumers who already own Rock Band 1 and have an online connection will receive a software key for a nominal expanded licensing fee (less than $5) and be able to import most songs from the Rock Band game disc into their Rock Band 2 song library!"

i hope that they rock

Bodhisattva is a fun song on the real guitar. I can why the fast shuffle rhythm will be tricky on a plastic guitar controller

Sweet news...I wonder what the "pop" album is? Rock Band 2 is seriously the game I am most excited about this year.

Metal is cool but I hope they don't pick the crappy US style of metal. They already did Dragonforce on GH3, hopefully it'll be along those lines. Old school Metallica would be ok, although aren't they doing a GH add-on?

Is anyone else tired of the RockBand/Guitar Hero Phenomenon besides me? It's so yesterday!!!

Just an opinion.

Umm, why do they say "When the game comes out in October"? Harmonix already confirmed September, hopefully that's just a typo.

Posted by MartyMcFly84 - Friday, August 15, 2008 2:11 PM

@TKEmysterio: No, Rock Band is just getting started. If they can make 6 Call of Duty games I think they can make 2 Rock Band games.

If you don't like it, don't play it.

pretty lame that we have to pay more for songs we already paid for

Posted by btnkdrms - Wednesday, August 20, 2008 11:17 AM

Wow .. that's pretty raw to charge people to play something they already paid for - at least have a special for the first month from its release that if you buy the game you get to transfer all your old songs or something for free

I hope one of those albums is Journey.

A fee to move the songs? Gimme a gd break. Like those mfers don't have ENOUGH money? Jagoffs.

Posted by greyfish7 - Wednesday, August 20, 2008 1:32 PM

I wouldn't mind the fee so much but I am bothered by the use of the word "most" in that deal. I have to pay to transfer "most" songs? so some are free to transfer? some won't transfer at all?

intentional vagueness makes me nervous

@ Camdog916

Green Day sucks.

Posted by Waterbear91 - Wednesday, August 20, 2008 2:19 PM

Hope its Iron Maiden or at least some good metal...

NEWSFLASH

CPRxChris says that Green Sucks. So the 65 million records they have sold must mean........????? Exactly! I wish I could sell 65 million records and suck. I hate stupid people.

Posted by 66jzmstr - Wednesday, August 20, 2008 3:12 PM

Camdog916, flawed 'logic' there, mang. Britney Spears has sold far more than that - that must mean she makes some really good music then, huh?

Posted by Camdog916 - Thursday, August 21, 2008 10:01 AM

66jzmstr, yes it does. If you sell allot of albums then you make good music. I don't like The Beatles music but they have sold millions of records which mean they make good music. Cause I don't like the Beatles I not going to make a blanket statement saying the Beatles suck like CPRxChris did. If a band or artist sells allot of records means allot of people buy them which means they make good music. It's logic plain and simple.
