Human Wrecking Balls Coming To G4!

Posted by Frank Meyer - Thursday, August 14, 2008 11:55 AM

Fans of destruction, damage and mayhem, prepare to be delighted…

There’s a new half-hour series debuting on G4 this fall called Human Wrecking Balls that stars brothers Craig and Paul Pumphrey, two dudes who demolish everything from boats and cars to houses and bars using only their bare hands!

Nice.

“Guys seem to have an innate fascination with watching demolition,” said Neal Tiles, President of G4. “Add to this the science behind it and the idea of two brothers doing all the demolition physically, and we think Human Wrecking Balls is an excellent addition to our programming line-up with.”

The Pumphreys are far from your average brothers with a combined weight of 550 pounds. Craig is a decorated police officer and world champion mixed martial artist. He recognized his gift of surviving hard crashes at a young age after falling 20-feet on to a steel construction bolt that shattered his skull only to bounce back days later. His brother, Paul, is a construction worker and has been twice crowned World Creative Breaking Champion, once after breaking through six-feet of ice. With their outrageous sense of humor and daredevil attitudes, the Pumphrey brothers are out to show the world that with the right approach and enough physical toughness almost anything is possible.

The Pumphreys are strategic in their passion for dismantling things. For each challenge, they join forces with a team of experts in material science and engineering to review the object of their destruction from every possible angle before taking it apart, using physics and know-how to determine the most effective approach. The duo also enjoys a little friendly competition throughout the challenges such as who can break out of a jail cell the fastest and which Pumphrey makes a better bouncer based on who can most successfully destroy a bar.

Additionally, each Human Wrecking Balls episode reveals the final outcome of the Pumphrey’s ripping and smashing, as well as the various experiments they put to the test. For instance, is a foreign or domestic car easier to dismantle? You’ll find out this fall on G4!

I think they should change the title of the show "Things Falling Down and Going Smash."

I smell Emmy for this gem of a show!

This some kind of scramble to try and do damage control on Hurl? I swear, if that show is popular then I might as well eat a bullet now.

G4 is starting to turn into crap.

G4 used to be the channel of GAMING and Japanese Culture and things of the like, not this Man Show hurl BS.

Freaking bring back G4.com!!!

Oh yay yet another show that has nothing to do with technology, nice job G4 I f$cking hate your channel.

It's like G4 is in some kind of race with themselves to find the worst ideas for shows ever.

Seriously, why can't they just be the gaming/geek culture channel? Everybody else on cable manages to find a nice little niche and stick with it. X-play and AOTS are the only good shows on G4 now outside of special event coverage.

Code Monkeys is not my cup of tea, but I understand the appeal and think it fits well with the network. But the others, ick.

I mean Hurl? Honestly? C'mon...this is some epic joke right? A few weeks from now the president of the network is going to come out and say "Hey guys, remember when I tricked you all into thinking vomiting and punching walls were real shows? Ha, I gotcha good! Here's ten cool shows about gaming."

As an addendum to my last post.

I'm okay with Ninja Warrior and the other Japanese shows, to an extent. I think they tie into that gamer/geek idea fairly well, but I think that G4 relies on them too heavily and shows them too much.

But Cops and Cheaters have got to go. If you're going to rerun old shows, buy the rights to Captain Power or the old Mario Bros cartoons or something. At least that remotely relates to the tech/gamer/geek idea.

Your commercials still say you're "tv that's plugged in" but you've plugged yourselves into the wrong demographic. G4 is a channel for nerds. Why would we care about some meathead show like this?

I like the change from being a tech wiz, it gets boring after a while. G4, you keep doing what you are doing, you have me as your viewer! (except for Hurl, c'mon guys, epic fail!!!)

Can you guys hire Tina Wood again? She rocked. Maybe your crappy show ideas would be better if you hired somebody entertaining to host them. She and Laura Foy and the others had a great show there for a while. Much more in-depth than X-play ever was (I still like X-play though).

Watched "Human Wreckingballs" the other day while waiting for my wife to get ready for the store. Was the episode when each of them flipped a VW bug on the side. Impressive, until I noticed that the engines to both cars had been removed prior to the stunt (I own a bug and can tell), making the cars significantly lighter.

WEAK.
