Brutal Legend Too Brutal?

Posted by Frank Meyer - Wednesday, August 13, 2008 10:43 AM

Have ya seen the trailer for the rockin’, Jack Black-connected upcoming videogame Brütal Legend? Watch it above since the game currently has no publisher and was recently passed on by MTV Games.

It was announced last month that Activision had opted not to pick up the game from Vivendi Games's portfolio as a result of the Activision-Blizzard merger, and now apparently MTV followed suit. But Double Fine Productions chief Tim Schafer, the man behind the game, seems confident it will soon find a home and we will all rock together in the most brutal way very soon.

Brütal Legend is an action adventure game courtesy of Double Fine and published by Sierra Entertainment for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is the second game from Double Fine, following the popular Psychonauts and stars Jack Black. The website and preview feature much metal courtesy of legends Judas Priest. Dig it!

Lets see...in the video game market what can sell most easily...

Sex and Violence.

You have Violence, and theres probably a story back in there, plus all the Pnauts fans will probably pick this up

OMG this game is way over the top ! AWESOME so crazy.
I am sure someone will easily pick this up ... well I guess depending on how finished the game is and come on you get to work with Jack Black how awesome is that !!!(I am assuming Jack will do the voice of his character) Tons of Sex and violence like the last poster said sweet!

Well its about metal. No wonder MTV wants no part of it.

Best. Trailer. Ever.

MTV doesn't want anything to do with it because it actually HAS music.

Now we see the evils of activisions buyout. A unique and original game is put out on the street while COD is being taken back to WW2 and being released on every console

@lazyteabag, great observation.

I'm curious as to how a game starring a big name like Jack Black is going to fail. Why would publishers be scared of this game?

Oh, and "Psychonauts" was awesome.

Jack Black and heavy metal have me on the fence. It's only Shafer's brilliance that makes me even half-interested. I gotta see a lot more before I'm sold.

And Psychonauts was not popular. Everyone who played it loved it and critics loved it, but it sold horribly. Still easy to get and still nobody buys it. I imagine that's holding anyone back from putting this out. It's practically guaranteed to tank, even if it's fantastic.

Psychonauts didnt sell because Lucas Arts was so angry at double-fine for leaving they payed higher than them for advertising and Psychonauts was shrouded under LAs' massive bone for pleasing George

You want MTV to release this game? Make the character more "Urban" and put in a hip-hop soundtrack and MTV will be all over it.
